What’s New in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade?

The world of Final Fantasy VII Remake is about to get much larger with the debut of the "enhanced and expanded" Intergrade.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is a stunning take on the classic PlayStation RPG that debuted in the late '90s. The legendary game has topped list after list of best titles of all time, thanks to its memorable story, engaging mechanics, gorgeous music, and undeniable charm. With the first installment of a multipart remake out in the wild, fans are already anxiously waiting the next adventure with bated breath.

Thanks to Square Enix, however, there isn't much of a wait left to experience the next part of the sprawling adventure. While the newest addition to the overall narrative hasn't yet arrived, there's still more to play with the debut of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, an "enhanced and expanded" version of the game that's already available. This time, however, it's got a wealth of new content for you to play through.

Not sure if Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is worth your time? Here's everything you can expect from the expanded version of the game -- be advised, there's plenty to look forward to!

New playable chapter: Episode INTERmission

There's a new episode you can play through as Final Fantasy VII mainstay Yuffie Kisaragi. Episode INTERmission, as it's called, lets you take on the mission of infiltrating Midgar as Yuffie while working with Avalanche to steal a special materia from the nefarious Shinra Electric Power Company.

Yuffie features a unique new play style, which is heavily rooted in ninjutsu moves, thanks to her Wutai background. She has a wide range of close-range and long-range attacks that she can leverage to bring the pain, as well as her new Banishment and Elemental Ninjutsu moves. She might take a bit of getting used to, but she'll be ridiculously useful in battle.

More than that, Yuffie's story looks to be expanded considerably than what she received in the original game. It'll be interesting to see her as well as the Wutai-born Zhijie as well as new members of Avalanche to chat up. It's going to be a lengthy part of the episode, so strap in for plenty of new story elements.

Visual and performance optimization

This new edition of Final Fantasy VII Remake is headed to PlayStation 5. With that in mind, the new PS5 version features 4K graphics as well as other important tweaks. Graphics Mode will net you those types of aesthetics, but Performance Mode will offer a smooth 60fps during play. You'll get a chance to soak up the world of Wutai and beyond the way the developers meant for it to be seen. You can swap between modes at your leisure, doing whatever works best for you.

Photo Mode

Everyone loves to snap a few photos here and there. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will introduce a new Photo Mode, which gives you the freedom to pose characters, change the lighting and the framing of scenes, and alter the way everything looks for a fun custom assemblage you can take snapshots of. Photo Mode is an increasingly popular addition most games have added as of late, so it's fun to see it here as well.

PS5 upgrade

If you own Final Fantasy VII Remake on PlayStation 4, you can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free. This applies to both digital and physical editions. You can even import your save data so you can pick up right where you left off. You'll want to make sure you aren't playing the free version of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which was available as a PlayStation Plus download, however, as the free upgrade isn't an option for those players.

It's likely more than obvious by now how much has changed with Intergrade's debut—if you're looking for another slice of goodness from Final Fantasy VII Remake, you'll undoubtedly find it here. If nothing else, think of this version of the game as a great holdover until the next installment has finally arrived...whenever that may be.
